A bit of History for you. The first KLM flight from Holland to Australia was in 1938, carrying Dutch refugees. As covered in the Sydney Morning Herald Wednesday 29 June 1938:

DUTCH PLANE STARTS.
AMSTERDAM, June 28.
The first plane of the Amsterdam-Sydney service departed to-day after a brief ceremony at which representatives of the British Legation were present.
The K.L.M. has no intention of racing Imperial Airways to Australia, but the plane is expected to arrive in Sydney about the same time as the Cordelia, although It departed from Europe two days later.

Great historical piece on KLM - terrific to see that they are experimenting with fuels. Wish same could be said with US carriers. I will fly KLM next time.
