MERRY CHRISTMAS from CRUISING THE PAST

VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS from CRUISING THE PAST…

Cruising The Past: WHEN DO THE GOOD THINGS START from the hit London revival of SNOOPY.

Cruising the Past: JUST ONE PERSON from the CBS ANIMATED SPECIAL of SNOOPY.

Snoopy!!! The Musical is a musical comedy with music by Larry Grossman and lyrics by Hal Hackady – the book by Warren Lockhart, Arthur Whitelaw, and Michael L. Grace. It is based on the Charles M. Schulz comic strip Peanuts.

Snoopy premiered on December 9, 1975 at the Little Fox Theatre in San Francisco, California. Directed by Arthur Whitelaw (You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown, Butterflies Are Free), the cast featured Don Potter, Jimmy Dodge, and Pamela Myers (Company).   Marc Breaux (Mary Poppins, Sound of Music) choreographed the show.

Snoopy was originally produced by Arthur Whitelaw, Michael L. Grace and Susan Bloom.

There have more than a 3,000 productions of the show with thousands of performances. It is estimated that one in every ten actors or actresses who were in high school or college drama classes performed in Snoopy or You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown. A reunion of performers playing Snoopy, Charlie Brown, Linus or Lucy would fill Madison Square Garden.

The musical was produced in New York at the Lambs Theatre with a run long run from 1982 to 1983. Directed by Whitelaw, the cast included David Garrison as Snoopy, Terry Kerwin as Charlie Brown and Vicki Lewis as Peppermint Patty. Lorna Luft played Peppermint Patty in several productions.

Snoopy was a major hit in London.  It played at the West End Duchess Theatre from 20 September 1983 through 11 November 1984 for 479 performances, and featured Susie Blake. The production was nominated for the Olivier Award, Musical of the Year, and Teddy Kempner was nominated Actor of the Year in a Musical.

It was revived at the Off-West-End Jermyn Street Theatre in February 2003. The musical ran at the New Players Theatre, London, in July 2004, with several cast members from the Jermyn Street production and again directed by Whitelaw, the original director.

Snoopy has been a major hit in Japan and with the strong Chinese interest in the comic strip Peanuts – the show will soon be produced in China.

Internationally, SNOOPY has had major productions in worldwide – Pairs, Berlin, Stockholm, Sydney, Mexico City, Auckland and on and on.

A prime-time animated TV special based on the musical, also called Snoopy!!! The Musical, aired on the CBS network.

SNOOPY has been produced by many regional theatres – including recent productions in San Francisco, Portland, St. Louis, Los Angeles, Chicago and Boston.

About Michael L. Grace

During the mid-80s, Michael Grace worked as a writer on the TV Hit Series THE LOVE BOAT. He wrote many of the two hour special featuring great stars of the past, including Lana Turner, Claire Trevor, Anne Baxter, Ethel Merman, Alexis Smith, etc. The public’s access to these stars, in familiar dramas and comedies, made them want to go on a cruise. They could see the stars in an ordinary world as “regular” people. The phenomenally successful series was responsible for creating the cruise industry as we know it today. By the time he was writing for Love Boat, the great steamship companies and their liners were flying hand me down foreign flags, painted like old whores, scrapped or doing three day cruises to the Bahamas. He had sailed on over thirty ships and liners with his parents, aunt and grandmother in late 50s to early 70s. The very successful CRUISING THE PAST website has been an outgrowth of Michael’s strong interest in cruise and social history. Drawing on his own knowledge and a vast maritime and social history collection, he is able to produce a very successful website. Michael is part of the award winning team that created the internationally performed award winning musical SNOOPY, based on PEANUTS by Charles M. Schultz. He has written for television and films. Read more by going to "About" (on the above dashboard) and clicking "Editor"…
